“Viktor and Lachezar lit our Festival on fire last August!” -
OICMF Artistic Director Aloysia Friedmann
Back by patron request! Pianist Viktor Valkov and Cellist Lachezar Kostov will perform for our annual Fundraising Concert “Leaves of Gold … with a Touch of Red.” If you attended the 2013 Summer Festival, you know you’re in for a real treat.
This amazing duo will light up the holiday-adorned Music Room at Rosario Resort on Thursday, December 12th at 6:00 pm and Friday, December 13th at 6:00 pm.
They’ll perform the Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody that had audiences leaping to their feet, Buxton Orr’s Carmen Fantasy, works by Chopin, Debussy and others. Our favorite violist, Aloysia Friedmann, will perform alongside them during the evening.
Following the music, guests will enjoy an hors d’oeuvres buffet and wine reception in the Orcas Room of the Rosario Mansion. OICMF would like to thank Hosts and Reception Sponsors Jerry and Jan Barto, owners of Rosario Resort. And a special thanks to Concert Sponsors Rick Strachan and Ginni Keith, and Artist Sponsors Carl de Boor and Helen Bee, Glenn Prestwich and Barbara Bentley, and Laila Storch.
We’re adding “a touch of Red” to this holiday event – for the festive timing and in honor of Lachezar’s love of red shoes! Lachezar slipped into his red velvet shoes during the Festival receptions – and we’re sure he’ll wear them in December, too! We’d like to encourage everyone to wear a touch of red, and be part of the colorful holiday spirit!
Tickets to this fundraising event are $150. For reservations, call 360-376-6636 or email email@example.com. All proceeds benefit Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival programming, as well as music education. OICMF is committed to providing skill-building techniques and inspiration to Orcas islanders of all ages, from preschoolers to community musicians. For those unable to attend, a wonderful way to support the Chamber Music Festival in the winter months is to be among the “guests in spirit” listed in the program, which is a 100% tax deductible donation. “Both Viktor and I are counting the days until our next visit …, and feel that we are coming back home – where food tastes best, where everyone loves you for who you are, and where music lives.” Lachezar Kostov
Leaves of Gold Concert – December 6 and 7, 2012
The December 2013 “Leaves of Gold” Fundraising Concerts were perfect in every way. As guests approached Rosario Resort on Orcas Island, they were greeted with white Christmas lights framing the beautiful historic mansion. The lobby was filled with a Festival of trees, each uniquely decorated by non-profit organizations. And then the stars of the evening - the magnificent Miró Quartet. Daniel Ching, William Fedkenheuer, John Largess and Joshua Gindele masterfully performed Beethoven’s Harp String Quartet in E-Flat Major, Op. 74 and Schubert’s String Quartet in G Major, D887. The world famous and much-loved Quartet played these classics in Rosario’s Music Room, the centerpiece of the mansion featuring Belgian stained glass, a Tiffany chandelier, two mezzanine libraries and a two-story 1913 Aeolian pipe organ. It was the perfect setting for a magical evening.
We can’t thank the Miró Quartet enough for coming to Orcas Island in rainy December to perform for our “Leaves of Gold” Fundraising Concert. It was a very special gift which overwhelmed concert-goers will long remember!
