Chad Wesselkamper, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, is a recent graduate of Rice University where he studied double bass performance at the Shepherd School of Music under the tutelage of Timothy Pitts and Paul Ellison. He began piano studies at age three and double bass studies at age 14. Mr. Wesselkamper has played with many orchestras, including the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America, the Aspen Festival Orchestra, the New World Symphony, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam Philharmonic, and the Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra. He performed at Carnegie Hall three times before age 19, and he has toured the world performing in countries such as South Korea, Japan, Prague, the Netherlands, France, Denmark, and England.
Mr. Wesselkamper leads multiple bands throughout Houston and the state of Texas. He is the leader of the Chad Wesselkamper Quintet and the Houston Ensemble. Mr. Wesselkamper regularly performs with the Vanguard Collective at some of Houston’s top restaurants and bars, performing jazz and jazz-inspired music. He has also worked with many jazz greats, including Benny Golson, Antonio Sanchez, Rodney Whitaker, Erwin Stuckey, Michael Dease, and Rufus Reid. His dedication to the music was awarded with a position in the Cincinnati Jazz Hall of Fame.
