Jasper de Boor
viola
Lauded for their “bottomless depth” and “gorgeous resonance” (Cleveland Classical), Jasper de Boor is a founding member of the Poiesis Quartet. With the quartet they have received numerous awards, including the 2023 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition’s Grand Prize. They also received Fischoff’s Senior Strings Gold Medal and Lift Every Voice Prize, as well as the Gold Medal and BIPOC Prize at the 2023 St. Paul String Quartet Competition.
In May 2024, they joined the Concert Artists Guild roster for North American management as the winners of the Louis & Susan Meisel Competition. In October 2024, the quartet released their debut album, as we are, in collaboration with mezzo-soprano Nancy Maultsby on the Bright Shiny Things label.
Jasper began violin studies at a young age with Ronda Cole and added viola with Dan Foster shortly before their undergraduate degree at Oberlin Conservatory, where they studied both instruments with David Bowlin and Kirsten Docter. Currently, Jasper attends University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music studying viola with Ayane Kozasa. Jasper also studied piano throughout their youth with Douglas Harrington and baroque violin with Marilyn McDonald at Oberlin. Aside from music, they love to cook, bake, watch movies, and sleep.
