Oliver Groenewald

Originally from Germany, Oliver Groenewald has lived on Orcas Island since 2013. Mr. Groenewald was Director of Jazz Studies at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold and taught trumpet, arranging, and composition at the University of the Arts in Bremen from 1997 to 2014. He performed with the NDR Radio Big Band in Hamburg and has been writing for the German Chamber Orchestra since 2005. Mr. Groenewald also gives masterclasses in arranging, big band, and improvisation in Europe and North America. His latest recording project, featuring the Finnish piano player Iiro Rantala, was released on the German label ACT.
